It's Summer!

It is hot enough to be summer even though it is still May. The grass is jungle-like here in Michigan.

Happy 50th Birthday Tim!

 It was Memorial day the day that Tim was born. Tim, wishing you a very happy birthday! Age is relevant....I would love to be 50 again.

I thought that everyone would be interested in this ration book from WWll.

It's interesting down below where it instructs to salvage tin cans and waste fats to make munitions for our fighting men. I think volunteers would come and pick up the fats. My Mom kept a container on the stove for fat drippings.

I think that the Office of Price Administration is long gone.

I always love my grandparents house, just a few blocks from my house. I never ever noticed what disrepair that the house was in until I was looking at these old picture. It was always the perfect house to me.

Spring has sprung!

Just got back from my trip to South Carolina! I had a wonderful time and some thank yous are in order. I so appreciated Takeshi's donation to my new phone...thank you so much. To all the wonderful meals that we had.....I am now even fatter. Thank you Amy for your kindness and putting up with me for 3 weeks. To Allison....thanks for making the sacrifice of giving up your room for me. And thank you John for just being there. I loved hanging out with all of you. I loved the sun and the ocean, the birds and the flowers and now it is time to get down to business here at home. Started out by busting a window frame first thing and it looks like a new window is in order. Still waiting on my tulips to bloom.
I hope that everyone is well and wish that I had more news and pictures....so send me stuff for next month everyone.
PS: Rode by our beach house ....remembering good times.

Happy Easter

Hoping and hopping that everyone has a very nice Easter! Chocolate Bunnies for everyone!

I will be leaving for South Carolina in a week....can't wait. The weather has got to be better than here. Looking forward to seeing everyone and getting out with my camera. Will have lots of photos to post when I return.

My Kind of Town

 Recently, Tim visited Emma in Chicago where he got the grand tour from Emma. Tim took the train from Royal Oak, Mi. to Chicago.

 I love this picture in front of "The Bean".  You can see Emma, both front and back, and also see Tim taking the picture....cool.

Renovations

 Tim has been painting and just general clean up of his house. Emma and I were there to visit and it really looks nice.

Painting and Planting

Before: There's Takeshi after spending all morning digging out 20 year old shrubs.

After: Porch cleaned and painted and new Azaleas planted. Black mulch has been added and still to come, all the little garden chachkies.

 I'm sure that we all make up a budget but whether we stick to it or not is another story. Here is my Dad's budget from 1942, 2 years before I was born. I love looking at the little notebook that had all of his budgets. Can't believe how cheap everything was. $2 for the doctor, amazing! He kept track of everything even down to packs of cigarettes. A lesson to us all.

 There I am right in the middle. My Mom was our troop leader.
